Doctor’s Best MSM is formulated with pure Methylsulfonylmethane, a sulfur-containing compound required for many different metabolic functions. MSM can provide potent joint support for arthritis and acts as an essential component of powerful antioxidants like glutathione and N-acetyl-cysteine. MSM is naturally present in the body, but increased demand for MSM can occur with joint damage and infections.

- MSM is used to help promote joint comfort and restore normal mobility in people with arthritis. Collagen and glucosamine, the major structural components of joints are dependent on MSM for their strength and integrity. In people with arthritis, where the joints are damaged, MSM may help restore normal joint functions by assisting with the formation of new collagens and glucosamines to form healthy cartilages, tendons, and ligaments. In some joint supplements, MSM is often used with glucosamine to improve joint health.
- Methylsulfonylmethane helps the body manufacture important antioxidants. Environmental pollution, stress, and modern-diet that is usually rich in preservatives and poor in nutrients expose the body to cell-damaging free radicals. These factors increase the body’s need for antioxidants that stabilise free radicals before they can cause damage to the cells. MSM is needed to form glutathione, a very potent antioxidant that also helps the liver with detoxification and waste elimination. Cell protection from antioxidants been has linked with reduced risk for cancer and other degenerative diseases like heart diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, non-Alzheimer’s dementia, and macular degeneration.
- MSM is also considered essential for healthy hair, skin, and nails. Methylsulfonylmethane is a pre-cursor to collagen, the primary protein that makes up the skin, hair, and nails. Additional supply of MSM from the diet or from supplements can help form more collagen to support a younger looking skin, stronger and shinier hair, and stronger nails. MSM is often called the “beauty mineral” for these benefits.
- Methylsulfonylmethane can interfere with the painful, inflammatory processes occurring in the body, which provides effective pain relief. In lab tests, MSM has been shown to sustain the flow of harmful substances outside the cells and allow nutrients to flow inside the cells. This mechanism helps reduce the buildup of pressure inside the cells, which causes inflammation associated with arthritis and muscle pain.
Methylsulfonylmethane or MSM is a sulfur-based compound naturally found in all cells in the body, as well as some foods and beverages. It is estimated that 34% of MSM’s weight is sulfur. MSM forms the links to create collagen, the main structural component that forms and holds the connective tissues such as cartilages, tendons, ligaments, muscles, skin, hair, and nails. The body’s requirement for MSM increases when damage to these connective tissues occur, like the wear and tear of the cartilages in arthritis. The body can make use of additional supply of Methylsulfonylmethane from food and supplements to form new cartilages, tendons, and ligaments to promote joint health and control arthritis symptoms. Because ageing also reduces MSM concentration in the cells, getting older also means increased need for supplemental MSM to help prevent sagging of skin, thinning of hair, and maintaining joint mobility. Doctor’s Best MSM contains purified MSM to help the body maintain connective tissue integrity, manufacture antioxidants, and facilitate other metabolic functions.
